Babysitting for 2 weeks

Luckily it's only our friend's two cats we have to look after for a couple of weeks. And I love having animals around. Those two are easy to take care off. I call it babysitting since we first started doing this when my friends first kid was born.

Sammy is the social one - mainly because she is continuously hungry and hoping her cuteness gets her another treat and it shows :-). It took her about 1min to get used to the new surroundings and to figure out that Jeff and I now have the power to provide her with food. She's been around my feet all day long.

O'Malley is the shy one. First it took us 15min to catch him back at my friends house to put him into the transport box. He knows the best hiding spots and is QUICK (or I am slow - however you want to think about it). Once I got back to our place he was completely terrified. Not even willing to leave the dreaded box he lay completely flat on his stomach shivering and miauing pityfully. I finally decided to take him out myself - he must have hated that too. He immedeatly found the next closest hiding spot under an old sleeping back in the farthest corner of the room downstairs. I left him alone figuring he'll come up eventually to eat and drink. When Jeff came out he actually managed to coax him out of the sleeping back for a few minutes but not much more. But as I figured, comes feeding time ALL cats awake and O'Malley finally found his way upstairs to hide in his favorite spot (to be closer to the food I am sure). I personally hate him hiding there because it is in my closest on top of all my PP winter paddling clothes which attract his long hairs like nothings else and you NEVER get them out again (which makes me look like a furry hairball in those clothes - well maybe it at least offers added warmth). This year though I was smarter and covered up my clothes with some blankets - YEAH!

After we had to feed O'Malley in the bed room (ONLY this one time I swear) rather than the kitchen, he slowly came awake and spend the evening coming by for the occasional petting. While Sammy seem to be the sleepy one at night - no wonder after being on her feet begging for food all day.

The only ones not happy about the whole situation (well I am sure my friends miss their cats although they don't say so) are our neighbour's cats, Ghost and Digger. They treat our home as their own and visit us often (even though we never gave them any food EVER). Ghost is a HUGE white cat and the king of the area. He is quite content and loves everyone and everything. He also likes to scratch our new sofa which I am absolutely NOT thrilled off.

Digger is the moody one. There are days where he doesn't even know you and others were he comes to sit on your lap while you try to surf the Internet and wants his belly rubbed for hours (or so it seems). Now I know what Jeff was always so busy with all day while he was off work. Digger is also the oldest and smaller cat in the neighbourhood and gets bullied around by the other cats a lot. So our house or top of the truck are usually save heavens for him.

But not now - BECAUSE as much as he gets bullied around by the local cats he can't stand our cat visitors. He was sitting in front of our door all afternoon and evening yesterday hissing and growling through the window - while Sammy tried to stare him down from the safety of the top of the stairs. Quite funny, although I do feel sorry for Digger. He was sooo mad yesterday that he even attacked Jeff who wasn't thrilled about that obviously.

Your friends sure do appreciate you keeping them. I'm sure they will be so spoiled by all the attention when we get back that they won't want to come home.

So - where did O'Malley eat yesterday? Did he have his supper delivered to him in your bedroom? ;)
