This might be my last post for a while. Jeff and I are all packed and ready to go - take off is in 3hrs 50min (I know lots of time). Not sure how much computer access we'll have down under. Maybe some for the first 2 weeks in Sydney but after we get to Perth it's outback travel only. We'll be back December 2nd so don't give up checking.
Last updates from the northern hemisphere:
We skipped our last training paddle yesterday afternoon after paddling in the cold and rain on Mo and Tue morning. I was sitting in my K1 yesterday thinking - the next time I paddle it'll be spring again and 30C!!!
Today we started cleaning up and packing in the morning. The Australian government ask that all fresh water equipment be cleaned with soap and dried to prevent any algae to take over their country as has happened to North America (eg purple strife mill foil). So after we finished our last minute run arounds this morning I was all over cleaning the paddles. Unfortunately there was some little blemish on my blade which I don't really notice paddling. BUT when trying to sponge the blade down I caught the little sharp edge with my pinkie and rammed about 0.5cm of carbon fibre into it. I had Jeff operate on it for 30min using needles, tweezers and razor blades to get it out but no luck. So I called my family doctor and luckily her associate had some time to see me. What a waste though. She poked in it for about 20min using a sharp syringe tip and all she managed was to push it even deeper I think. Her colleague suggested to send me to the hospital, get x-ray ..... for a little splinter on the outside of my pinkie!? - no way, no time. So it's still in there. I got some external antibiotics to put on the wound, a Tetanus injection to prevent infection and some prescription for some antibiotics to take if it does get infected. Not sure if pharmacies in Australia would acknowledged a Canadian prescription but I don't intend to find out. I had much worse wounds on my hands before - blisters full of sand and dirt and who knows what when out touring with our sea kayaks - at least 3 days away from any help. I'll be fine - that's what the doctor said at least. It doesn't even hurt right now.

Good luck with the racing and have a great time on the adventure.
Hopefully you do get your 30C racing weather but be prepared for the worst. When we raced in Sydney in late September 2007 one of the days was 12C with rain/wind.
Oh, and they will inspect your paddles at the airport when you get there. Good thing you washed them, but too bad about the finger.
Hopefully you'll have a few minutes to post something with your results?!
