Ironman next?

I did a self-inflicted mini-triathlon yesterday. 1km swim, 16km bike, 5km run - 4hrs:-). Well I think I need a bit more work on those transitions. Having a shower after the swim, going shopping during the bike leg and having to play with the cats before doing the run adds quite a bit of additional time - but keeps it fun too. Except for the run off course - running always hurts!!!! And I mean HURT. My legs are pretty sore today and we are off to do another run tomorrow. It's the annual Terry Fox Run (http://www.terryfox.org/Run/) and our Kayak Club calls all its members to participate in this event. They offer several distances but not the one I thought I could do. There is a 4km run but that makes you look like a wimp and an 8km run which for sure will make me whimper. I was looking for 5-6km - got a few hours left to decide.

The shopping part was also a pretty shocking experience maybe because I don't do it very often - none food shopping that is. But I had to admit this summer that I can't possibly fit my "behind" into my old bikini bottoms any longer - which I probably bought more than 15 years ago for my first trip to Australia - and not in any way because it looks ridiculous with those funny tan lines half way down my thighs from my paddling shorts. So in order to enjoy snorkeling at Ningaloo and the Great Barrier Reef in a somewhat respectable outfit I went for a new bikini. I should have listened to my friend though to wait and buy it in Sydney but I just didn't want to spend too much time there with shopping. Many other things are on my to do list for our first stop in Australia. Therefore, I spend a horrendous amount of money and time on these tiny two pieces of simple fabric trying to avoid pink and purple flower designs. We bought a 2 person tent today for less than 3 times the amount in less than half the time and that will protect Jeff and I from rain, sun, wind, bugs, dingoes, snakes, spiders ..... The bikini does not come with box jelly fish or shark protection.
